Please put deep consideration to serve as a parent representative.
The Community Advisory Council (CAC) has been asked to nominate five Carroll County Public School System parents to serve on the Redistricting and School Closure Committee (RSCC). The Board has decided to form a committee of stakeholder representatives to conduct the next study of potential school closures and redistricting. The committee will develop and present multiple options for comprehensive redistricting and school closures to the Board and the Superintendent. CAC is being asked to nominate one parent from each of the following areas of the county – Hampstead/Manchester, Taneytown/FSK area, Mt. Airy, Sykesville/ Eldersburg, and Westminster – to serve on the committee.
For those of you who are not familiar with the CAC, it is one of six standing committees of the Board of Education of Carroll County and serves as a channel for public concerns, advice, and information to and from the Board. Every Carroll County public school has a representative on the Council.
The RSCC will be made up of 5 parents, 1 county government representative, 2 business people, 2 representatives from CCPS employee groups, and 3 or 4 central office staff. Meetings will be open to the public. The time commitment for committee members will be approximately 12 to 14 meetings, and meeting times and locations will be determined by committee members. Representatives are expected to vote. The committee will begin meeting in February and present its final recommendations to the Board of Education in September 2018.
The CAC is looking for people who are open-minded and willing to analyze data and options in an impartial way. Interested parents should complete the attached application below and submit it to Carmen Shanholtz, CAC Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than noon on Monday, January 22, 2018. Late applications may not be considered. Questions should be directed to Carmen Shanholtz or your school’s CAC representative. If you are not familiar with your CAC representative, please contact your school principal.
